Ceremonial flags are made usually in raycot or pure silk, complete with fringe, cord and tassels and supplied with polished wood carrying poles with brass screwjoint and finial. Additional items include leather carrying straps to take the flagpole and gauntlet gloves.
Many heraldic and civic flags bear the whole achievement of arms set in the centre. Because of the complexity of many coats of arm, it is a costly operation to reproduce them. It is better to either illustrate only the shield on a plain field, or, to be more correct, enlarge the shield of the achievement to occupy the complete area of the flag.
